Beijing Shijitan Hospital (named Beijing Railway
Hospital previously) was founded in 1939. The Department of
Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine was one of the major divisions
of Medicine. The department has made great progress in the past more
than 60 years. Now it has become a successful specialized department
in patient care, education and research.
The Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine occupies 42
beds in Beijing Shijitan Hospital including RICU. It has a core
faculty of 8 full-time M.D. physicians. The department provides
consistent, high-quality of specialized care for patients with all
types of lung disease.

Clinical interests: Pulmonary and critical care
medicine, special interest in management of respiratory
failure, COPD rehabilitation and diagnosis and treatment of
lung cancer.
Research interests: The study about weaning from
mechanical ventilation with protocol process, which has been
performed early in the department in China. The research about
the effect of endotoxin on the splachnic blood flow and
bacteria colonization in airway in critically ill patients.

Qiuhong Fang MD
Associate professor of Medicine
Clinical interests: Pulmonary and critical care
medicine, special interest in COPD, asthma and infectious
diseases.
Research interests: The mechanism of airway and lung
injury and repair in the development of chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease.
Clinic schedule: Tuesday afternoon, Friday morning
Jingli Li MD
Clinical interest: Pulmonary medicine, with special
interest in management of critically ill patients and
respiratory support.
Clinic schedule: Monday morning, Thursday afternoon
Yu Cao MD
Clinical interest: Pulmonary medicine, with special
interest in diagnosis and treatment of COPD and asthma.

The mission of the Department of Pulmonary and
Critical Care Medicine is to deliver outstanding clinical service to
our patients with various lung diseases.
Our department is also with specific interests in diverse and
innovative clinical programs including management of the critically
ill patients, COPD rehabilitation, health care education for
asthmatic patients and multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of
lung cancer.
Our research programs are focused on the most pressing issues in our
specialty including ARDS and the mechanisms of COPD, the projects of
which are funded by government.

Bronchoscopy Lab: We are equipped with
electronic bronchoscopes and experienced in bronchoscope
examination, biopsy through bronchoscopy, bronchoalveolar lavage and
TBLB.
Pulmonary function test Lab: Perform pulmonary function test
and arterial blood gas analysis.
RICU: Provide outstanding care for critically ill patients
and specialized in invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation,
infection management and nutritional support.
