The Gastroenterology Department of Beijing Shijitan
Hospital, founded in 1939, has been recognized as one of the leaders
in Gastroenterology, known for its outstanding care provided by a
team of prestigious gastroenterologists, excellent doctors and
professional nurses. With the resources of a teaching hospital, the
Gastroenterology Department now incorporates clinical services,
medical education, and researches all together, aiming to serve
patients for the best.
Clinical Services
Clinical Services include Outpatient Services, Inpatient Services
and Endoscopy Services.
The Gastroenterology department provides a comprehensive
investigation and management service of suspected and established
gastrointestinal diseases. Outpatient services provided by
experienced gastroenterologists are available every weekday plus
Saturday mornings. High standard inpatient services provided all
year round by excellent doctors and clinicians are carefully
monitored by senior specialists under strict disciplines and
guidelines. The diseases dealt with through these services range
across the whole of gastroenterology, including commonplace ailments
like swallowing problems, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, peptic
ulcers, gastric cancers, colon cancers, diseases of the bile ducts,
acute pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel diseases, acute and chronic
gastrointestinal bleeding, and hepatitis as well as some other
complex conditions alike. And we have fame for special approaches to
the treatment for cirrhosis, and severe liver damages. The
Gastroenterology department Endoscopy Center owns several sets of
advanced endoscopic devices. A variety of endoscopic and colonscopic
procedures are preformed by highly skilled gastroenterologists, who
have at their disposal, the latest technologies. We have been the
first to investigate new techs of painless endoscopic examinations,
which have largely relieved patients’ anxiety and minimized
discomfort. We have also started applying pigment endoscopic
examinations to improve both the diagnostics and treatments for
early gastro-intestinal tumors. As for endoscopic treatments, we’ve
conducted many successful cases of ERCP, etc. Moreover, in coalition
of other experts in special care department, we have conduct
gastroesophageal gastric manometry and esophageal ph monitoring.
Medical Education
The Gastroenterology department offers clinical education programs
for students from Peking University Health Science Center and the
Medical School of Southeast University, as well as professional
trainings for clinicians from community-based hospitals. And ever
since it has been authorized as one of the training bases for
residents in Beijing in 2004, it has also provided training for
residents who intend to specialize in gastroenterology.
Researches
The Gastroenterology department puts a lot of focuses on researches
and has conducted many clinical researches and studies throughout
the years. Recently we have been doing studies on the expression of
prostate receptors in different diseases as well as the impacts of
Helicobacter pylori on the functions of the platelet. More than 70
papers have been published by the specialists in our team on their
respective fields of specialty. Books that we composed include:
Hepatic Cirrhosis, Vascular Diseases of the Digestive System, and
Preventive Strategies against Gastroenterological Diseases. And
gastroenterologists from our department have also participated in
the composing and editing of several others books like Clinical
Pharmacology on Gastrointestinal Diseases, Modern Internal Medicine,
Gastroenterology and The Ulcers.

Our passionate and qualified team includes one
chief consultant, five deputy chief consultants and four
attendant doctors as well as fifteen professional nurses.
Among them there are one post-Doctor, two PhDs, and three
Masters in Medicine. Many of our doctors are involved in
ground breaking research and bring to the department the very
latest proven techniques.
Wu Jing, MD, PhD
Dean of Gastroenterology department
Chief consultant gastroenterologist at Shijitan Hospital
Professor of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology
Dr. Wu was one of the leaders on scientific researches at the
Health Bureau of Gansu Province. She has been the special
referee for Chinese Medical Journal (English Version) and Acta
Pharmacologica Sinica (English version). She has conducted
over 10 major researches, published more than 50 papers and
participated in the edition of 3 major monographs of
gastroenterology. Over the past few years, 21 students have
got their master degrees in medicine under Dr Wu’s
supervision. She is an expert on diagnostics and treatments of
general gastroenterological diseases with featured mastery in
endoscopic treatments for upper gastro bleeding .Her research
interests focus on the molecular biology of
gastrointestinal tumors and its clinical applications.
Lin, Xiang Chun, MD, PhD, Postdoctoral
Deputy Dean of Gastroenterology department
Deputy consultant gastroenterologist
Dr Lin is a committee member of .the Chinese Society of
Digestive Endoscopy (CSDE). She got her PhD and MD degrees
from Beijing Medical University and won the national
scholarship to pursuit her postdoctoral degree in Japan. With
rich experience in treating gastrointestinal, pancreatic and
biliary diseases, she is highly specialized in the use of new
technology such as pigment endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound
for precise diagnosis and treatment in early gastrointestinal
tumors and other diseases. Her research interests also include
Helicobacter pylori.
Lin Wu, MD
Deputy Dean of Gastroenterology department
Deputy consultant gastroenterologist
Dr Lin is a committee member of Chinese Association of
Integrative Medicine, Beijing Section. He has received special
training from China PLA General Hospital and has rich
experience in dealing with complex and severe cases of
gastroenterological diseases. He has almost 10 publications on
national journals and was the co-editor of 2 monographs. His
clinical specialty lies in endoscopic treatments for
esophageal and gastric varices.
Wei Nan, MD, Master of Medicine
Deputy consultant gastroenterologist
Dr Wei graduated from Shanxi Medical University and has more
than 20 years of experience of practice in gastroenterology.
He has also published several papers and was the co-editor for
2 monographs. His specialty lies in liver diseases and endoscopic
treatments, including Percutaneous Endoscope Gastrostomy.
Jiang Guo Jun, MD
Deputy consultant gastroenterologist
Dr Jiang graduated from West China Medical University and has
had special training at hospital. He has been working at
gastroenterological clinics for almost 20 years. He has also
published several papers and was the co-editor for 2
monographs. His clinical interests include pancreatic
diseases, hepatic cirrhosis and endoscopic treatments.
Gao Bing Xia, MD, Master of Medicine
Deputy consultant gastroenterologist
Dr Gao earned her Master degree of Medicine at Peking
University No.3 Hospital and has had special training at
Beijing Cancer Hospital. She has more than 10 years of
clinical experience and has published over 10 papers and
co-edited for 2 monographs. She is good at dealing with sever
cases as well as gastroendoscopic and colonendoscopic
treatments.
